It doesn’t take very long, especially online, to be presented with the next great Scam! So, how do You identify Scams? I’d love Your feedback on this one, post your suggestions in the comments section below.
If You were the Attorney General you would ask these two questions to help identify scams…
1 – Would a logical thinking person pay this much money for the product or service if there was not a business opportunity involved?
2 – Does the income stop when the recruiting stops?
If You answer No to number 1 and Yes to number 2
You most likely just identified a Scam! (Keep Your Money in Your Mattress)
There are several Companies out their that may be licensed, or not, that are all built on Recruiting.
So, You ask, are they Pyramid Schemes?
Well, simply put, Pyramid Schemes are illegal and there are many Businesses whose main marketing method is recruiting! Before coming to Watkins in Sept 2009, I had been with at least 6 other Network Marketing/MLM ((Multi Level Marketing) companies who’s main goal it was to Recruit. Which in and of itself is not Illegal, as there is movement of actual Products to the end Consumer, who in many of these Businesses is the Consultant, who in some cases is required to spend $100 or more on Products per month to keep their Membership! Not illegal, and not a Pyramid Scheme by definition, but perhaps a somewhat unethical way of doing business, when often the Company itself requires such quotas, or in some cases, even buying Catalogs every two weeks to maintain commissions and other bonuses. Just a difficult, and in my opinion a somewhat unsavoury way of doing business. For a quick side note, if you’d like to See a Funny Video about Pyramid Schemes
Many Network Marketing, and MLM, Businesses are legally operating, and others masquerading as legal, are not! The United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) warns “Not all multilevel marketing plans are legitimate! Some are pyramid schemes.
The FTC further warns, “It’s best not to get involved in plans where the money you make is based primarily on the number of distributors you recruit and your sales to them, rather than on your sales to people outside the plan who intend to use the products.”
The FTC also says, “research is your best tool”
and gives eight steps to follow:
1. Find—and study—the company’s track record.
2. Learn about the product
3. Ask questions
4. Understand any restrictions
5. Talk to other distributors (beware of shills)
6. Consider using a friend or adviser as a neutral sounding board or for a gut check.
7. Take your time.
8. Think about whether this plan suits your talents and goals
Now, let’s take a closer look at J.R. Watkins Company, and Watkins Products, in the light of these findings and warnings. First of all, we recognize Watkins began in 1868, and in 1869 introduced what we believe to be the first ever 100% Satisfaction Money Back Guarantee! Watkins has hence operated as a legal entity for over 145 Yrs. in addition Watkins Products, like Watkins Original Double Strength Vanilla, Watkins Cinnamon, and Watkins Black Pepper, were recognized as “Grand Prix Gold Medal” winners at the Paris Exposition in 1928. While these Products, and others continue to made by the same standards today. So, we know Watkins has a great track record.
So, let’s take a closer look at Watkins Products, Watkins Soups, come in containers that make up to 50 servings per container and at a per serving cost of about $0.24 (24 cents / Serving) and Dessert Mixes with a cost of about $0.48 per serving. So, while some products may be more expensive, Watkins Products are definitely competitively priced.
Quality, and a genuine concern for developing Natural Products is reflected in Watkins Products and Processing Methods, and has earned Watkins the distinction of being the only Direct Selling Company to receive the Natural Products Association Seal of Certification from the Natural Products Association (After Clicking Link, Use Drop Down Menu to select J.R. Watkins to see Certified Watkins Products)
So, now we know that Watkins has a great track record, is well established, and has quality, affordable products. Natural, Organic, Gourmet, Personal, Home, Grocery and Consumable Items that many of us use in our homes on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
Now, let’s examine Watkins Recruiting Methods, and Policies, does a person have to Recruit in order to make money and earn an income with Watkins!? The simple answer is No!
There are Groups of Marketing Consultants with Watkins who do focus mainly on Recruiting, and others who focus mainly on Product Sales, however, Watkins does not require anyone to Recruit, and with quality, competitively priced, consumable, products backed by Watkins 100% Satisfaction Money Back Guarantee, it is possible to earn an income simply selling Watkins Products. In fact, Watkins pays from 25% – 39% on Product Sales to the Watkins Consultant that sells the Product, and does not require their Consultants to make minimum orders, nor meet quotas to maintain their Membership and earn 25%, or more, on their personal product sales.
For those who do build Sales Teams, they can qualify to earn up to 14% on Group Sales.
Plus in addition to earning 25% – 39% on Personal Sales, and up to 14% on Group Sales (For those who build Sales Teams), Watkins also provides many other Incentives and Bonuses for their Consultants based on over all sales and other qualifications.
Now, the one thing not mentioned elsewhere here, is that their are some Companies, especially Network Marketing & Multi Level Marketing Companies that earn as much, or more, on their Catalogs, and Business Materials, than on their Product Sales. While their Leadership, even their Field Team Leadership, earn more from Tapes, Books, and Functions, than from their Sales Volumes!
Here is where Watkins really shines, as they have Policy which prevents the Company from making money on their Catalogs, and Business Materials, and prevents Leaders from making money from Books, Tapes, and Functions! All profits earned must come from the sale of products to the consumer. This is one thing that really “Wowed” me when it came to Watkins! That, combined with the lack of hype and dream sessions I’d experienced elsewhere are what really helped me to see Watkins as a viable Business Opportunity. When I saw that, combined with the genuine Customer Demand for Watkins Products, is when this went from a maybe Business, to a legitimate Business, and when I really began to see what is possible for those who apply themselves.
My hope is this Post will help you avoid and better identify Scams and I wish You well in all your endeavours. May only the best of opportunities and successes enter your life.
